Supper Club starts again this month on Wed. Oct 4th, 2006. The program is titled "The Hunger Project - Empowering Women and Men to End Their Own Hunger".
Our guest speakers this evening are Andy and Trudy Anderson, who moved to the Seacoast two years ago from Port Angeles, Washington so that Andy could take a job as a metallurgical engineer at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Trudy is a retired French professor. They moved here because they have a passion - supporting the effective work of the Hunger Project (THP). They volunteer joyfully to share this. They are eager to have people learn about this work and to help it be known and funded in this part of the world!
The Hunger Project is a global, strategic organization committed to the sustainable end of world hunger and poverty by uncovering the root causes of hunger and poverty and transforming those conditions so that people may be empowered to solve their problems and have lives of dignity. The highest priority in all activity is the empowerment of women. Women bear primary responsibility for family health, education and nutrition. The Hunger Project does not send food anywhere. It addresses the 92% of world hunger that does not make the headlines, but causes an estimated 20,000 deaths per day, mostly children.
With a modes annual budget of $10 million, THP reaches more than 22 million people in more than 10,000 villages in 13 countries around the world, Bangladesh, India, Benin, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Senegal, Malawi, Uganda, Mozambique, Mexico, Bolivia and Peru. THP also recognizes the importance of the Millenium Development Goals, 8 major goals agreed upon by 190 nations for the planet by 2015. In every region where THP works, these goals are being realized.
Trudy and Andy will show video clips of the work around the world and are pleased to answer questions. Also they will invite you to learn more and also to attend the "Africa Prize" in New York City the weekend of Oct. 21-22, 2006. We invite you to visit the website: www.thp.org.
